Ridge Gourd kadaisal / பீர்கங்காய் கடைசல்


ridge gourd - 1
toor dhal - 1 tbsp
onion - 1
tomato - 1
green chillies - 7,8
turmeric powder - 1/4 tspn
tamarind - a small gooseberry size

for tempering

mustard seeds - 1 tspn
urad dhal - 1 tspn
dry chilli -3,4
cumin seeds - 1/2 tspn
small onions- 4,5
curry leaves

  1. Peel, remove ends, wash and chop ridge gourd into very small chunks .
  2. Chop the onion, tomato and green chillies.
  3. In a Pressure cooker add all the above with toor dhal ,turmeric powder and a small tamarind ball and cook for 3 whistles. 
  4. Allow it to cool and mash well.
  5. In a Pan add 1 tspn oil add mustard seeds, urad dhal, cumin, dry chillies ,chopped small onions and curry leaves.
  6. Now add the mashed mixture to it and remove when it starts boiling.
  7. Serve with white rice. Its very tasty...
